I first encountered the Taoist concept of emptiness through a close friend, MAC. I told him my husband Chris and I were going to Costa Rica to get Yoga Teacher Certified and were looking forward to the spiritual experience we were about to embark on. MAC suggested I read about this subject expressing that I would enjoy learning about it! On initial Googling, I read that emptiness, in Taoism, refers to the absence of fixed and permanent forms or labels, and that it is a positive and transformative state that allows us to connect with the universe in a deeper and more meaningful way.
I was immediately intrigued by the idea and began to explore it further. During my YTT courses, we had philosophy study where we learned about this concept deeper but through my own yoga practice. As I let go of my preconceived notions and fixed beliefs, I found that I was able to see things as they truly are, without the filters of my own biases and prejudices. This heightened my awareness and mindfulness, and I am able to make healthier and more fulfilling choices.
I also found that embracing emptiness helped me release stress and anxiety. When I let go of my attachments and expectations, I freed myself from the worries and fears that often accompany them. This led to greater peace of mind and a more relaxed and peaceful state of being.
As I delved deeper into the concept of emptiness, I also found that it helped me deepen my spiritual connection. By letting go of my ego and self-centeredness, I was able to open myself up to the infinite and all-encompassing nature of the universe. This led to a sense of oneness and interconnectedness with all beings, and helped me feel more grounded and centered in my daily life.
Upon returning home, I continued to incorporate this level of mindfulness into my daily routine and appreciate the calmness that I experience even in this more stressful environment.
I am grateful to MAC for introducing me to the Taoist concept of emptiness and for being another guide on my journey of personal growth and spiritual development. Through my own experiences, I have come to understand that emptiness is a valuable tool for living a more fulfilling and meaningful life, and I am eager to continue exploring its teachings in the future. Whether in Taoism, yoga, or spiritualism, embracing emptiness can help us become more mindful, peaceful, and connected with the universe.
